Technical University Of Kenya Open

The Technical University of Kenya in conjuction with ChessPAK invites you to the TUK Open 2016 which will be held in TUK Main Campus along Haile Selassie Avenue from 12th to 13th March 2016. 

This event will be FIDE rated and may count towards olympiad qualifiers(subject to confirmation). The tournament will feature two Sections: Open and Ladies. 
The entry fees is KShs 700 for adults and KShs 500 for juniors 
Registrations via MPESA 0722169090 (ANDIWOH MOSES) to be done by Thursday 10th March which will be the deadline for registrations. Any new registrations thereafter will attract a penalty of ksh 200 and players will play from round 2.

RULES & REGULATIONS.
1. FIDE tournament rules will apply and the Chief Arbiter's decision will be final. Chief Arbiter:
2. The tournament will be run using the Swiss Pairing System in 6 rounds
3. Time controls of 80mins per player
4. Tie breaks: Game points followed by Buchholz (37) and Sonneborn -Berger (52).
5. Only players and arbiters shall be allowed in the actual playing hall, except with the express permission of the Arbiter. Hence there will be no spectators in the playing hall. Players who have finished their games are spectators and will be asked to leave the playing hall.
6. Recording of moves is MANDATORY. Both players shall give the Tournament Desk a signed, correct and legible record of their game immediately on its completion.
7. Draw offers before blacks move 30 are not permitted.
8. During play the players are forbidden to use any notes, sources of information or advice, or analyze any game on another chessboard.
9. During play, a player is forbidden to have a mobile phone and/or other electronic means of communication in the playing venue. If it is evident that a player brought such a device into the playing venue, he shall lose the game. The opponent shall win.
10. As long as the game is in progress a player may only talk to an arbiter or to his opponent as permitted by the Laws of Chess.
11. A player may withdraw before the end of the tournament and their score at time of withdrawal shall stand.
12. Photography may only be allowed in the first ten minutes of each round, or with the express permission of the arbiter at any other time.
13. The playing venue will include the playing hall, washrooms and a refreshments area. Note: No smoking area is provided. Players are not allowed to leave the playing venue without permission from the arbiter.
14. In the event of any appeals, an appeals & arbitration panel (to be constituted at the beginning of the tournament) will rule on all disputes, communicating with the Chief Arbiter whose decision will be final.
